SEARCH TIPS

Our search function works best when looking for specific destinations or activities. Each book and map title is tagged with the following information:

• Every national park, state park, county park, national forest, and national forest wilderness area included in the book or map.
• Every major mountain range, river, and desert covered by the book or map.
• The general geographic region covered-Southern California, Washington, New England, Tahoe, etc.
• Type of activity featured-hiking, backpacking, bicycling, kayaking, etc.
• Title, Author, and ISBN

Searching for any of the above items will produce good results. For example, 'Yosemite National Park' 'Cascade Range' and 'Snowshoe books' are all great search terms.

Note that most individual trails, trailheads, mountain peaks, creeks, lakes, general features, and nearby cities are not included. Consequently, search terms like 'Canyon Creek Trail' 'Mount Reba' or 'Columbine Lake' will produce poor results.

Putting your search terms in quotation marks will only retrieve titles that have exact matches with the search terms. For example, searching for "Big Basin Redwoods State Park" (with quotation marks) will only bring up those titles that specifically cover the park. Searching for Big Basin Redwoods State Park (no quotation marks) will bring up every title that has big, basin, redwoods, state, or park somewhere in its title or description.
